Scotty Meets Future Spock

My favorite part of 2009's amazing Star Trek? Simon Pegg as Scotty. (I swear the man could read the phone book and I would buy it in HD and watch it on my iPad.)  Unfortunately one of my favorite parts of my favorite part doesn't seem to be anywhere online in a video clip .... but I do have a sound clip .... and a lunch!

To honor poor always-hungry Scotty I've got a meal and a half (at least) packed in my Laptop Lunch box! In the top left I have a roast beef, provolone and tomato sandwich with Scotty and Future Spock picks I made. Under that is some mac & cheese with tomato slices and colby jack "Well, that's brilliant." The side containers have key lime yogurt, Hershey Kisses and yogurt covered raisins.

John hasn't watched much Star Wars but he has played an awful lot of Angry Birds Star Wars and was given some lunch boxes by a friend so we went with the Yoda one for inspiration for his lunch:

Welcome Back Game of Thrones!

Game of Thrones returns tonight and of course some of the Edible Geekery crew decided we needed to celebrate with a mini hop! After you're done here, click on the button at the bottom to head on over to see what's going on at BentoForKidlet!

I had a million and a half ideas of what I wanted to do. I've watched some previews and have looked at tons of pictures for Season 3 and when I saw that two of my favorite young British actors are joining the show representing House Reed I knew I had to continue the trend from my past GoT lunches and do a lunch for their family:

I've seen several different versions of the House Reed crest but it always has a gatorish lizardish type black creature on a green background so I used a cookie cutter and some coloring and my mini letter cutters to turn some provolone into a crest. It's sitting on top of some ravioli with some Mini-Oreos and cocktail sausages in the small compartments.

And I couldn't help the little shout-out to Eddard Stark. After all, House Reed has been devoted to House Stark for thousands of years ....

Happy Pi Day!!! Being a very important Geeky Holiday we're doing another Edible Geekery Blog Hop! After you take a look at what I've got, click the button at the bottom to hop on over to see what's next and keep going until you get back here.

Of course, I'm celebrating with a Doctor Who lunch. You should know by now that if there's something to be celebrated there's a very chance that I'll do so with Doctor Who. Or Supernatural. I was debating the Supernatural when I got a notification on my cell phone. My notification sound at the moment is The Doctor and Sky saying "RoseTylerMarthaJonesDonnaNobleTARDIS." That got me thinking of  the episode it came from, "Midnight." One of the other tests of Sky's duplication skills came from the square root of Pi ... and roast beef ... and bananas ... and ...

Here's the lunch:

Roast beef with mashed potatoes, gravy and mixed past veggies with provolone cheese, banana chips, and Cheese Doodle-Os (just because) packed in an Easy Lunchbox with my favorite TARDIS napkin.

My Geeky Valentine Hop

The geeks have been unleashed yet again and this time we're getting all lovey-dovey for Valentine's Day!

Holiday Hop

When we first started talking about the Holiday Ho Ho Hop I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do and I was awfully glad I got a spot here in the last week of the three so I would have more time to ponder.

Hobbit Hop

I couldn't help it. With all the "Elf on the Shelf" stuff going on all over I made a crack to some friends that the only elf I would want hanging out on my shelf would be one from Middle Earth ... and who better than Gandalf? While technically not an elf by race he is referred to as The Elf of the Wand by the Northern Men. (His name, in Norse, translates to "Wand-Elf.") Besides, he's awesome.

Gandalf and his name are provolone and he sits on a cocktail sausage shelf atop macaroni and cheese and cheesy mixed vegetables.

A Thankful BBF Blog Hop

 With Thanksgiving coming up we decided it would be a great time for another Hop but not necessarily with the traditional turkeys and whatnots. Instead we all decided to pick something that we're thankful for and go with that. After seeing what I'm thankful for be sure to swing by to see what Keith has to be thankful for at Oh!Bento!

My first thought was to not do it at all.
Then I thought I would but with a not-at-all serious twist (which ended up being the Zombieland lunch).
Then I thought about what (besides my own little family) I really truly am the most thankful for:
my BBF BFFs.

I could go on and on about how much these girls (and guy) mean to me and how much I would want certain ones of them to be there to continue raising my darling John if anything were to ever happen ...but then I would get all sentimental and sappy and would probably start to cry and it's no fun crying.

Halloween Hop

Jack is pb&j on wheat. "Jack" is colby jack on top of SnapPea Crisps. There are also Halloween LifeSaver Gummies, yogurt raisins, and pieces of Mini Slim Jims in the main box. When John saw the small skull & crossbones Tupperware bowl he wanted something in that, too, and picked out the fruit salad.

For Mom:

Some pineapple & ham pizza, dried pineapple and cranberries, vanilla yogurt, and V8 cocktail labelled "Type O Negative."

Red Dwarf Blog Hop - "Polymorph"

The British sci fi classic comedy Red Dwarf returns to television tonight and

to celebrate the beginning of the tenth season we've decided to do a hop of edible geekery!

In case you're unfamiliar with the episode or just need a refresher because it first aired in 1989, here's a clip:

The lunch, of course, is a tribute to Arnold J. Rimmer (played by the amazing Chris Barrie).
The large section of the EasyLunchbox has quiche topped with the quote from his shirt in cheese.
The top right has turkey sausages in the shape of the H on his forehead.
The top left has frosted brownies for no other reason except that I wanted brownies.

Talk Like A Pirate Day! (A BBF Blog Hop WITH Booty!)

It's Talk Like A Pirate Day and we have a question for you.

I have Amy from the Doctor Who episode "The Curse of the Black Spot" :

Amy and the words are cheese on top of rotini. The top left has dried cranberry "rubies" and pineapple "gold." The top right has Totally Ranch Munchies snack mix (that I totally swiped from John).

So I guess that means John must have the rubbish pirates!

John's peach muffin is in a pirate muffin paper (trust me) with a skull and crossbones ring stuck in the top. There are also pirate face rings around one of his cheese stick pieces and one of his turkey sticks (he says that they're friends of Jake and the Neverland Pirates) and a Jolly Roger pirate flag sticking out of his clementine.

Doctor Who Blog Hop -- Waiting for Who

You have no idea how long I've been waiting for this hop! We've done quite a few hops with the Bento Bloggers & Friends group but this? Oh ... this one makes me all sorts of wibbly wobbly inside.
Unless you're a new follower, you have probably guessed by now that I'm a huge Doctor Who fan. Waiting for this hop (and the new season!) has left me feeling a bit like poor little Amelia Pond sitting in the back yard waiting for that beloved Vworp-Vworp sound of the TARDIS. In fact, it was that feeling that inspired my lunch:

Now, my John is only six years old and has a tendency to not think that he can handle anything that might be deemed as scary. He loves cartoon monsters and computerized zombies, but he isn't real keen on any that appear "real" on tv. I figured that because of this I would have to wait at least a couple of years until I could really introduce him to Doctor Who. Thanks to bits and pieces and YouTube clips, though, John is becoming a little Whovian!

I was thrilled to finally be able to make him a Doctor-ed lunch and it has three of his favorites: a Dalek, Eleven, and an Adipose*.
*(Yes, I am fully aware that Ten was the one who met the Adipose. Same character. Different face. Your argument is invalid.)

Olympic Blog Hop: A Plea from Whovians

Dear Olympic 2012 Committee:

On behalf of all Whovians I would like to point out that you are screwing with the Space-Time Continuum.

We all saw The Doctor light the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony in the episode "Fear Her." In case you somehow have been living in a hole and haven't seen it, here's a recap:

Now, we don't ask for much. Just don't screw up the dang Continuum! The Opening Ceremony is tonight so that gives you plenty of time to fix things. Well, not plenty of time ... but still ... time.

Doctor Whooves -- who looks and acts suspiciously like Ten

But what we really need:

The way it should be. Preserve the Space-Time Continuum!

At least putting the three together makes a decent lunch:

Now, I know that the Olympic Committee is all set on their plans and that now we just have to hope that the Continuum doesn't get too wibbly-wobbly as a result of that will or won't happen at the Opening Ceremonies. Olympic Blog Hop: Laff-A-Lympics

With the Olympics Opening Ceremony being tonight we decided it was the perfect time for another BBF Blog Hop! I had originally planned on doing a book-themed lunch for John ... but then I found some old school Laff-A-Lympics episodes online and it was all over.

John wanted a "snacky lunch" laid out like the scoreboard at the end of each round, so here it is:

Yogi, Muttley and Scooby are the three team captains and all made out of cheese stacked on top of ham stacked on top of cheese. "Laff-A-Lympics" is also cheese (he really wanted cheese!). Below the captains are two mini beef sticks, grapes and fruit snacks.

The 4th of July is just around the corner and even though most of our kids are out of school for the summer they still have to eat, right? The Patriotic Hop, Mom Style

With the 4th of July coming up the gals in Bento Bloggers & Friends decided that it would be fun to do another blog hop. Honestly, I wasn't quite sure what I would that would be "me" and fit with the 4th until it was suggested that it could be anything patriotic. Patriotic .... presidents .... Abe, the flag and stars are all cheese over a Healthy Choice pasta dinner of some sort.
