Picture Day Tuesday!

image

Tomorrow is school picture day for John so I thought it would be fun to do his lunch accordingly!

His head is a sandwich ball with SunButter & Fluff. The camera and his shirt (yes, it's the shirt he's picked out to wear) are also SunButter & Fluff. The camera stand is a cut Slim Jim.

Add-ons are grapes, a Fruit Rollup & the always present juice box.

Smile for the camera!

Halloween Lunch - Spookley (and Boris!)

image

Spookley The Square Pumpkin is a favorite around here. As soon as it hits the tv it hits the dvr. John wanted Spookley for his last Halloween lunch for the year and asked for his friend Boris the Bat to tag along for the ride.

Spookley is turkey on sundried tomato tortilla bread. Boris is monterey cheese. Candy corn, yogurt with sprinkles & Create-a-Bug fruit snacks on the side. We're hoping for a spider so he can create Edgar, Allan or Poe ;)

Happy Halloween!

Spooky Spider & Web

image

John asked for a "spooky spider & web" for Friday's lunch. When I remembered I had silicone Wilton pan with spiders and webs I showed him & that was that! Instead of the usual sandwich he'll be getting blueberry muffins and turkey bites. Some Halloween fruit snacks and grapes and a juice box will round it out.

Haunted House

image

John asked for a haunted house with a spooky tree for tomorrow's Halloween lunch bag. At first I thought he was crazy, but I think he'll be happy with it!

The house and lawn are SunButter & Jelly sandwiches. The tree is a Slim Jim with Monterey cheese branches. There's also a full moon with a bat flying by, also out of cheese.

Sides will be applesauce, FunSize Mini Oreos, Halloween fruit snacks, and a juice box.

Only a few more Halloween lunches to go & John is already talking about what I'll make him for Christmas lunches! Yikes!

Vampires!!!

Well, a Vampire and a Vampire Bat, anyway :)

The sandwiches are roast beef and surrounding them are Twizzler Nibs and Candy Corn. He'll also get a cherry gelatin cup ("blood jello") and an apple.

Trick-or-Treat!

image

I brought home from work some coloring pages. One of them had 4 kids trick or treating on it & John asked me to turn it into lunch. Whoops! Hopefully these 2 will be sufficient. I tried with the others but ended up wanting to pull my hair out when I couldn't get them to transfer well.

I used Wilton's Boy & Girl cookie cutters for the sandwiches but only pressed down part way for the girl so I could cut out her witches hat as well. The Mummy & Witch are bologna sandwiches and the add-ons are vanilla pudding with pumpkin shaped sprinkles and raisins.

Five Little Pumpkins

image

image

image

John asked for a Five Little Pumpkins lunch for Monday. He's really getting into the Halloween spirit this year so I wouldn't be at all shocked to see a week full of Halloween lunches!
The ghost is a pumpkin cream cheese sandwich, the pumpkins are Nilla Wafers & the gate they sit on is made from mini Slim Jims. Also added are Halloween fruit snacks and a juice box. An apple will probably find it's way into the bag, too.

Corduroy

image

One of my favorites growing up was Don Freeman's Corduroy. I loved that silly little bear and his missing button! Of course, I had to get John a copy and he loves it, too.

Corduroy is a sandwich made with pumpkin cream cheese. On the side are cheese buttons, teddy grahams, turkey bites and an apple.

Oh. This must be lunch. I think I may have always wanted a Corduroy lunch.

I Scream, You Scream...

image

Just a simple lunch for Thursday with ham & cheese ice cream cone sandwiches, grapes, yogurt & Dora fruit snacks.
We spent the morning visiting John's preschool since he had the day off & I don't think either one of us had the energy to think of a more elaborate lunch. Still cute, though!

Fall Favorites!

image

A simple but fun lunch for Tuesday featuring some Fall Favorites:

* Candy Corn cut out of Monterey, Colby & American cheese
* mini pumpkin muffins
* turkey sausage bites
* candy corn (Sunrise brand is nut-allergy safe... Brachs is not)
* cinnamon applesauce

No post tomorrow, probably, thanks to a Superintendants Day off from school Wednesday... but that just means more time to plot for Thursday's lunch!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

image

John absolutely adores CCBB so now he'll have it in lunch form!

The coconut tree and grass are SunButter & Jelly sandwiches. The A, B & C are cheese. On the side are Scrabble Jr Cheezits and grapes!

Clifford's Halloween Howl

image

I knew I wanted to do a lunch based on one of John's favorite books - one of his very first Scholastic Book Club orders back when he was in preschool. Of course, when I went to go find the book it wasn't on his bookshelf. It was in his bed! Some kids can't go to sleep at night without a favorite teddy... MY boy can't go to sleep at night without a book :)

Emily Elizabeth is a cheese sandwich. Clifford is a turkey sandwich. The jack o'lantern is a Nilla wafer & there are a few more of those with some Twizzler Nibs in the small container. Add a Clifford juice box and fruit (which I have to run to the store for now), and we have lunch!

Mr & Mrs Potato Head

I had this great idea to do a Mr Potato Head lunch. John, with his profound love of all things Toy Story, decided that rather than the toy I needed to do the movie character... and his wife!

The bodies, hats & shoes are berry cream cheese sandwiches. All the other pieces are cheese.

He's also getting a pudding cup, pretzels & a mini Slim Jim.

And a juice box, of course.

All put together:

As they'll appear in his lunch bag:

Hop Up! Jump In! It's Handy Manny! (yet another @Disney lunch)

Of course when I suggested Handy Manny star in a lunch bag John jumped at the chance ... and insisted that we needed a full body Manny and all of the tools. All. Of. Them.

Okay, so I may be cheating a little bit by making the tools so miniscule but seriously ... I'll be lucky if he eats the whole sandwich AND Rice Krispie Treat AND apple. I wasn't about to make each tool individually! Besides, he knows them all so well he'll know who's who even without them being full-size ... I hope!

Hey Howdy Hey! It's Woody!

John asked for Sheriff Woody from Toy Story for lunch tomorrow. Here he is with his hat (both made out of turkey sandwiches), his sheriff star (colby cheese), some mini Oreos & orange jello with mandarin oranges! I used cookie cutters for the body, hat & star. I love taking the almost easy way out sometimes :)

Another Cars Lunch! (@Disney)

image

This time around Mater is the star with a cream cheese & jelly sandwich. Lightning is there, too, on his juice box & bag of pretzels. Also making an appearance is Holly on a bag of fruit snacks.

Rocket Soup Lunch from Little Einsteins (@Disney)

When this face asks for something as seemingly ridiculously impossible as Rocket Soup for his lunch bag, it's pretty hard to say "no" :

I had to actually figure out what Rocket Soup is, though. All I knew was that it came from our beloved Little Einsteins on Disney. Luckily (?) I found a partial recipe online while looking for good sandwich pictures.
Annie: (Singing in the tune of "Humoresque No. 7") Mouse has cheese, the Knight has peas, and Joey has the jumping beans! That's what we need to make the Rocket Soup!

Ohhhh you might be thinking that the boy might not remember the specifics. Ohhhh you'd be wrong. Not to worry, though, as I'm a pretty smart cookie sometimes and remembered that in the pantry was one last tub of Mexican Style Chicken Tortilla Soup. There's our beans. I picked some out to make them more noticeable on top of the layer of shredded cheese I sprinkled on top ... along side a small smattering of peas from the bag in the freezer. Voila! Rocket Soup!

Because hot foods really need to go in at the very last minute after the thermos is heated, the soup right now is not in its final container. Granted, the only food thermoses we have are Phineas & Ferb and Garfield. Remember me? The smart cookie? I printed a picture of the kids from Little Einsteins just the perfect size to be taped over the top of the Garfield thermos! Drew Rocket onto a cheese sandwich, added some "Rocket Red Jello" and we've got a pretty cool looking lunch for Wednesday:

Penguins of Madagascar Lunch (@NickelodeonTV)

John went shopping with Daddy yesterday & I knew I was going to have my work cut out for me when I saw the box of Penguins fruit snacks. Yep. Almost immediately it was declared a lunch bag theme!

image

*penguins painted on a berry cream cheese sandwich
*fruit snacks
*goldfish ("because penguins eat fish")
*turkey sausage bites

Also in the bag will be an apple & juice bag since he's decided he won't drink from his thermos except at home.

Cute & cuddly, boys. Cute & cuddly!

Yo Ho Let's Go (To Lunch!) (@Disney)

image

Jake & The Neverland Pirates is one of John's favorite Disney Junior shows.
Here's a Jake sandwich with a treasure map & dubloons made out of cheese. In the skull cup are shark crackers & a pudding cup for an extra treat.
(He hasn't decided on grapes or yogurt raisins for a fruit yet!)
