Breakfast Bento in black+blum

I almost forgot to pack a lunch to take to work tonight but John asked for breakfast for dinner and it gave me a wonderful idea!
The wonderful folks at black+blum sent me goodies and tonight I use the first one for the first time since I decided to pack my own breakfast meal in my new Bento Box

It's a wonderful box and I just know I'm going to be using it quite a lot. John is already planning on it being a "sharing box" so you'll probably see some kid lunches packed in it from time to time, too.

Now for some oooh aaah shiny!
Love the simple packaging!
(yes - we're already planning on getting the other two!)
The fork doubles as a knife! Sauce cup included!
I love the removable divider. Versatility is my friend!

Dav Pilkey's Dragon

Thanks to the Fly Guy books John has become more confident in reading chapter books so Dav Pilkey has finally entered the picture! Today for lunch he has Dragon thanks to a copy of Dragon Tales that I found in a free book box at his school many moons ago. (Huge thanks to whoever left it there! We're loving it!)
Sorry for the lousy picture. The weather is disgusting and by the time I realized the picture was crud it was too late to try and take a new one. I think you still get the general idea, though!

Smile! It's Lewis Carroll's Birthday!

I don't normally post Monday's school lunch for John until Monday, but today is a very special occasion!
John watched the 1951 Disney Alice In Wonderland yesterday and decided that he had to have Chesire Cat for Monday's lunch. I printed up a picture of the cat and traced & tranferred it onto bread and colored him using AmeriColor Gel. The sandwich is ham & cheese. He's sitting on a branch built out of Mini Slim Jims. There are also dried cranberries and a little Trix cereal in his box.

Wondering what other Alice-related posts the Bento Bloggers & Friends have done (or have one of your own)? Head over to BentOnBetterLunches and check out the linky party!

Lazy Leftovers for a Work Night

Tonight's lunch is basically courtesy of me wanting to use & show off a new box I got from All Things For Sale.
Leftover takeout, yogurt, baby carrots & ranch dip all packed in this great box (with the yogurt and dip in EasyLunchboxes' Mini Dippers):
Oh yeah ... and I also wanted a good excuse to link up to the Leftovers on Friday Linky at Becoming A Bentoholic!

Angry Birds Star Wars - Darth Vader Pig

The last Angry Birds Star Wars lunch for at least a while ... so, of course, we have to end with Darth Vader Pig!
Darth Vader Pig is drawn onto a PB&J sandwich. There are also grapes, Angry Bird Gummies, Turkey Bites and cut string cheese.
Hopefully next week I can get back to making book lunches ...

Angry Birds Star Wars Tie-Fighter Pig

John finally gets his Tie-Fighter Pig today! The lighting was lousy for taking the picture but it at least got done ...

Angry Birds Star Wars - Stormtrooper Pig

This isn't the lunch he was looking for ....
John had originally asked for a Tie-Fighter Pig for today's lunch but it wasn't playing nicely so a Stormtrooper it is! The sandwich is, of course, pb&j and is sitting on grapes with Angry Bird Gummies and star crackers. He also has a tub of yogurt (unpictured).

The box is one of my boxes from All Things For Sale that he asked to use. I just couldn't say no!

Angry Birds Star Wars - Sand Pig from Tatooine

Part of me was hoping that John forgot that he wanted a week of Angry Star Wars Pigs after having the birds last week ....
Of course, he didn't.
The pig is pb&j on wheat. He also has a cheese stick, Angry Bird Gummies, grapes, baby carrots and some ranch dressing for dipping.

We LOVE Stitch (and FunBites Luv-It Giveaway!)

John and I both love bite-sized food ... especially when it comes in fun shapes. With the FunBites cutters that gets easier to accomplish. All you have to do is place the cutter over the food, rock it back and forth a little, place the popper on top and pop the pieces out!

Most recently I've used their Luv-It cutter for the hearts on my Madame Vastra & Jenny lunch from yesterday and for John's Stitch lunch for today. I suspect I'll be using it a lot with Valentine's Day coming up ... and if you keep reading you'll have a chance to do the same!
In the lunch: PB&J sandwiches made with FunBites Luv-It & Stitch cutter, cheese hearts made with FunBites Luv-It, grapes, Sixlets

We've used the Luv-It for sandwiches, cheese, and even tortilla crisps on salads!
And now you can win a Luv-It Cutter of your very own!

The giveaway will end at 11:59pm Eastern Time Sunday, January 27th. I will then contact the winner and if no reply is received within 48 hours a new winner will be chosen.

Doctor Who - Madame Vastra & Jenny

I love a good love story. When that love story happens in the Whoniverse it's even better! One of my favorite couples is Madame Vastra (a Silurian) and Jenny (a human).

John picked out the YouTube clip for the post:

I made the lunch:
Packed in EasyLunchboxes Brights with a Mini Dipper for dressing.
FunBites Luv-It was used to cut the cheese hearts scattered here and there.
The Victorian gas-lamp picks holding my tomato chunks were a gift from a friend.
I find it more than slightly annoying that I can draw aliens better than humans ... but it is what it is.

Used for this lunch:

He also had Angry Bird gummies, orange slices & snack mix.

Angry Birds Star Wars - C3PO & R2D2

In Angry Birds Star Wars C3PO & R2D2 appear on special levels. Probably because eggs aren't easy to work with ;)
Everyone's favorite droids are hard cooked eggs. I left C3POs egg soaking overnight in a water/color wash in order to get him the right color. John also has a cheese stick, Mini Slim Jim, tiny star peanut butter sandwiches, Angry Bird Cheese Nips, grapes and pig gummies.

Angry Birds Star Wars - Princess Leia

Quite possibly the only "princess" lunch he'll ever ask me to make ....

New Stitch Stash!

We love Stitch so I was beyond thrilled to receive a whole bunch of new Stitch supplies from one of my dear bento friends ... and I couldn't wait for John to use them so I decided to break some of them in for myself for work tonight! (He'll get his turn ... sooner or later!)
Leftover wings and sauce in my our new Stitch box with dipping cup & pick! I'm also taking an orange and yogurt but those aren't as worthy of posting as the awesomeness of our favorite alien experiment ;)

Plucky Pennywhistle's Pizza Salad (A #Supernatural lunch in #EasyLunchboxes)

It's Tuesday again! No better way to celebrate than another Supernatural lunch -- this time based on the Season 7 episode "Plucky Pennywhistle's Magical Menagerie."
Packed in +EasyLunchboxes , the Pizza Salad (since Plucky Pennywhistle's is a pizza place) has lettuce, tomato, hard cooked egg white, pepperoni and a provolone unicorn. The top left section is a melon/grape ball pit. The top right has some chunky pasta sauce in a Mini Dipper instead of regular dressing.

And in case you don't know about the unicorn ...

A Lock N Lock Lunch by John

Sunday when I asked John what he wanted for his Monday lunch he said a snacky lunch ... so I put it off knowing that it would be an easy fix before school. This morning when I got home from work I asked if he wanted to help decide what he had and he ended up doing it (almost) all by himself!

Clockwise From Top Left: Clementine (I helped peel), 2 Mini Slim Jims, 3 Veggie Cream Cheese Pretzel Cracker sandwiches (I helped spread), Angry Bird Gummies, White Cheddar Popcorn

I think he did a pretty fantastic job ... and I may ask him if he wants to do it every Monday!

#BelieveInSherlock Edible Geekery Birthday Hop

Some of the folks of Edible Geekery have decided to do a mini hop celebrating the birthday of Sherlock Holmes. After you check out what I've done, travel on over to BentOnBetterLunches to continue the party!

In 1893 Arthur Conan Doyle killed Sherlock Holmes. Or, at least, he tried to. The public outrage was so, well, outrageous that Doyle resurrected the character and wrote it into the canon as a faked death years later.

Fast-forward almost 120 years later and Sherlock once again fell to his presumed death on the BBC hit series Sherlock. Of course the audience was let in on the secret but that didn't stop an outrage in the fandom sense. People all over the world have declared their support of Sherlock (and Watson) with posters, shirts, blogs, graffiti, and any other medium that they can think of to declare their belief in Sherlock Holmes. (You can read more about the movement here and see some worldwide examples from believers here.)

My favorite medium, of course, is food ... so what better way to celebrate Sherlock on his birthday than with a lunch stating that I believe.
I have some leftovers from my Chinese Takeout in the small section (they forgot my fortune cookie -- Sherlock would not be amused) and mixed vegetables in marinara topped with cheese silhouette & letters in the larger section. My lunch is packed in this amazing (and very fitting) box from AllThingsForSale (a present from my DailyMile Secret Santa!):
And totally not lunch, but still worthy of posting ... my other favorite medium: ink. Specifically tattoo ink.
Still pretty new so there's still a bit of a red tint, but I love it!
Now don't forget to go to BentOnBetterLunches!
